How to tie your Obi |

| While
the karateka takes pride in maintaining a clean, neat gi (uniform), the
obi (belt) is not washed. After a period of training, the obi darkens and
frays as a result of hard work. This outward sign, in essence, becomes an
outward symbol of the effords of the karateka. |

Start with the belt in the center of your body. The stripes are to your right. |
![]() Wrap the belt around and cross it behind your back. |
![]() The stripes should now be to your left. |
![]() Take the belt end in your left hand and cross it over the right (left over right). |
![]() Bring it up under the entire belt. |
![]() Snug up the knot and take the belt end in your right hand and lay ot over le left (right over left). |

![]() When finished, the stripes are to your left |
