How to tie your Obi

While the karateka takes pride in maintaining a clean, neat gi (uniform), the obi (belt) is not washed. After a period of training, the obi darkens and frays as a result of hard work. This outward sign, in essence, becomes an outward symbol of the effords of the karateka.

Start with the belt in the center of your body. The stripes are to your right.

Wrap the belt around and cross it behind your back.

The stripes should now be to your left.

Take the belt end in your left hand and cross it over the right (left over right).

Bring it up under the entire belt.

Snug up the knot and take the belt end in your right hand and lay ot over le left (right over left).

Continue passing it up through the circle
